Our smaller class sizes allow teachers and students the opportunity to build strong, respectful relationships, which are crucial for students’ academic and social success. Each grade is assigned a faculty mentor who meets at the beginning and end of each day with their homeroom group. Students switch classes for various academic subjects, taught by faculty members who specialize in the content area. The schedule allows for some flexibility in grouping so that students can work at varying levels with a variety of peers and instructors.
Within this structure, teachers provide in-depth group instruction as well as individual attention to students. The goal is to offer a challenging academic program that can be tailored to meet each student’s specific needs, whether that means extra help in math for a struggling student or additional challenges in science for a more advanced student. Administration, faculty, and staff communicate regularly about the wellbeing of each student to ensure that students are not only well educated, but well cared for.
Middle school students receive a high quality accelerated academic program including core subjects and enrichment classes with a fully integrated Christian world-view. Bible study and Chapel are also integral to student life. In addition, students participate in a variety of electives based on their own personal interests. Mentoring and leadership opportunities are also part of the students’ regular schedule. Whether they are assisting in elementary classes, leading a study group, or working with the head of school on service projects, students have the opportunity to build these necessary skills with hands-on experiences. Students follow a departmentalized daily schedule that offers the advantage of learning from a variety of educators, each with a passion for and expertise in their subject areas. The middle school team strives to coordinate the curriculum across the disciplines and promote interdisciplinary instruction.
