In the spring of 1997, the Senior Pastor of the Medway Community Church first shared his vision for starting a Christian school. He brought together a group of interested people from a variety of backgrounds to develop the concept, vision, mission, and organization of this new school. In May of 1998, the group formed a Board of Directors for Cornerstone Christian Academy and filed for incorporation as a non-profit corporation effective July 1, 1998. The Academy received Recognition of Exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code on March 17, 1999. In September 1998, Cornerstone Christian Academy opened its doors in the lower level of the Medway Community Church with a first grade class of seven students, one full-time teacher, a part-time principal and a part-time administrative assistant. It was an exciting time for the students, parents, staff, and Board. Through word-of-mouth, the Academy’s excellent reputation was spread to church members, friends, relatives, and neighbors. In September 1999, Cornerstone started the school year in a rented facility on Highland Street in Medway with thirty-two students in kindergarten through second grade. In one year, the number of classes tripled and the number of students more than quadrupled. In September 2000, a third grade class was added, and the enrollment expanded to forty-six students. By September 2001, the Academy enrolled over fifty kindergarten through fourth grade students. In August 2002, Cornerstone Christian Academy moved to 650 Pleasant Street in neighboring Franklin, Massachusetts. With a larger facility and much needed classroom space, fifth through eighth grades were added. Cornerstone experienced continued growth and once again needed to find a larger space. In the fall of 2006, Cornerstone moved to our current campus at 40 Kenwood circle in Franklin where we share a 30,000 square foot facility with New England Chapel. While Cornerstone and New England Chapel enjoy a supportive working relationship and have compatible missions, the organizations remain completely independent of each other. Cornerstone’s enrollment continues to grow each year, reaching 86 in the fall of 2009. We watch with joyful anticipation as God continues to reveal his master plan. |
