A: Cornerstone’s curriculum covers the core subjects of reading, language, math, science, history, and Bible. Students also take enrichment classes in art, computers, drama, foreign language, music, and physical education. Q: Are special education services provided? A: While the Academy does not have specialized personnel or services available, we are able to accommodate some students with various learning differences. Before being accepted, an evaluation would be required in order to determine whether Cornerstone is able to meet the child’s educational needs. Q: Is transportation provided for students? A: Families are responsible for their own transportation. However, many students carpool with other families.
Q: Are uniforms required? A: In kindergarten through grade 4, boys wear navy pants or shorts with a burgundy shirt and girls wear skirts/skorts, jumpers, pants or shorts with a white blouse. In grades 5-8, boys wear navy pants or shorts with light blue shirts and girls wear navy skirts/skorts, jumpers, pants or shorts with a light blue blouse. (Please see our Uniform Policy). Q: What is the length of the school day? A: The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. Half-day kindergarten students are dismissed at 11:30 a.m.; the day ends at 2:45 for all other students. Q: Does the school offer Chapel? A: Once a week the students gather for morning Chapel. Once a month the entire school community comes together for All-School Chapel. Q: Is the Academy affiliated with a church? A: Cornerstone Christian Academy in an independent, non-denominational Christian school. We have families from many area churches. We are not affiliated with a particular church. Q: Do you have to be an active member of a Christian church to attend Cornerstone? A: We welcome applications from anyone who desires a Christian education for their child. We do ask that at least one parent sign our Statement of Faith expressing a desire for and interest in a Christian education for their children, and understanding that our students are taught in a manner consistent with the philosophy, mission, and values of the Academy. Q: Do you conduct standardized testing? A: Cornerstone administers Stanford Achievement Tests annually for students in grades 1-8. Student test scores (article: testing graph) are consistently in the top 25% nationally. Q: Does Cornerstone have before- and after-school programs? A: Cornerstone offers a before-school program beginning at 7:30 a.m. Cornerstone partners with the Franklin YMCA for after-school programs. The YMCA provides transportation from Cornerstone to the YMCA facility. |
