Foregin Language

The study of foreign language is an important part of Cornerstone’s curriculum because we believe that an enhanced world view is an important aspect of Christianity. Language and culture study can help us to see others truly as our brothers and sisters. It can also bring us to a greater appreciation of the contributions other cultures have made to our everyday lives.

Students in Grades 3-8 study Spanish, a language that is becoming increasingly important in the United States and throughout the world, where more than 500 million people now speak Spanish. Students focus on speaking, writing, and reading Spanish through learning vocabulary and grammar. This enables them to have meaningful conversations with one another. Students also explore other cultures and multilingual communities within the Unites States, discover connections with other subjects such as art, history and geography, and begin to make comparisons between our own society and others around the world.

Our teaching approach is designed to be fun and experiential while following a sound progression of skills. In addition to traditional instruction, we provide repeated and varied exposure to the language through activities such as watching television shows and movies in Spanish, listening to Spanish music, using language learning programs now available for computers, and accessing quality resources available on the internet.
