Cornerstone’s program is both Christian and classical. As a Christian school, our goal is to help students recognize God in every subject. Through learning about the world God created, students are encouraged to come to a biblically-based and personal understanding of God’s role in their lives. As a classical school, curriculum and instruction follow the classical stages of grammar, logic and rhetoric. In the younger grades, students are in the grammar stage. They readily absorb new information at this stage, and will learn facts and acquire tools that will be necessary for deeper understanding. For example, they learn to read, master spelling and phonics rules, multiplication tables, names and dates in history, and scientific facts. They will eventually grow into the logic stage, around sixth grade, and begin to explore how all of these pieces of information fit together. Ultimately, in the rhetoric stage, near the end of middle school and into high school, they will begin to interact with this information on a personal level with a degree of critical thinking. In Cornerstone’s Christian classical school model, students receive a high quality accelerated academic program with a fully integrated Christian world-view. Students in grades K-4 study the core subjects of reading, language, spelling and vocabulary, math, science, history/social studies and, Bible. They also participate in a variety of enrichment classes such as Art, Computers, Foreign Language, Library, Music, and Physical Education. |
